Our Personal Support Worker students in Ottawa were learning the Gentle Persuasive Approach to handling issues with their patients/clients.
GPA_pinching: The first photo depicts how a PSW can demonstrate suitable and respective self-protective techniques when a resident pinches. Make sure to stabilize your body part being pinched and then lean in to reduce the pinch or grasp with force resulting in the resident releasing their pinch and then call for help.
GPA_choking: The second photo shows how a PSW has to be confident in their response to being choked and must act swiftly to be sure that both the resident and PSW are safe.
