BECOMING A PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

To be eligible to license as a Registered Pharmacy Technician, you must graduate from a course that has been accredited by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP). The Pharmacy Technician programs of Algonquin Careers Academy, Ottawa and Mississauga, have been awarded the status of Full Accreditation by the CCAPP.

One of the courses that the students must take to graduate with their Pharmacy Technician Diploma from Algonquin Careers Academy is Sterile Products and Aseptic Technique. This course consists of hands on training for preparation of sterile products under a laminar airflow hood, knowledge on basic microbiology and prevention of microbial growth, aseptic technique including chemotherapeutics; and sterilization methods and handling of biohazard materials.

Our students with their instructor (a Registered Pharmacy Technician) are pictured here learning the techniques for sterile products preparation.
