PARALEGAL STUDENTS TAKING IT TO THE SUPREME COURT OF CANADA

Paralegal Class Trip - Supreme Court of Canada

On November 22, 2016, the paralegal class visited the Supreme Court of Canada, located on Wellington Street in Ottawa. The Supreme Court is the final word on the law in Canada, and the Federal Court has Courtrooms here as well. Students were permitted to visit the Courtrooms and admire the stunning Art Deco design of Canada’s highest Court.

Federal Court of Appeal Courtroom

In a Federal Court of Appeal Courtroom, a few of our students seized the chance to don Court robes for a photo. After the tour, which was expertly guided by a University of Ottawa law student, the group sat in on a Federal Court trial taking place in one of the first floor Courtrooms. They were able to see the presentation of highly technical expert evidence and watch counsel skillfully present her case.

Ottawa Courthouse Library

On December 2, 2016, the paralegal class visited the Ottawa Courthouse library at 161 Elgin Street. Shortly after arriving, the students met a couple of ACA graduates who stopped to talk about what they do day to day. Afterward, students had a library tour, hosted by a law librarian, and completed some research questions using the library resources. The library here is the home of the County of Carleton Law Association, one of the few law associations that welcomes paralegal members, including students.
